Mail Call!

I’ve been on the hunt for a wall mounted mailbox. The plan is to hang it on the same wall as the front door so the mail will be a bit dryer than it was the last time I got it. Mother Nature took away our back screen door, but I’m not letting her go crazy on the mail.

I’ve narrowed the choices to two I found online at Signature Hardware:

1. The Palace locking wall mount mailbox - I’m liking the smooth, clean look

2. The Rustico wall mount locking mailbox - this one just makes me smile

Homework From The Cabinet Lady

Turns out the kitchen cabinets can’t be ordered until we get a fridge and give them the dimensions to ensure the cabinets will fit around it. So on a fridge hunt we go.

STYLE
Due to the tight swing space for the door, we’ll need either Side by Side or French Doors.

COLOR
White

BRAND
The family and friends poll turned out these top choices:
Whirlpool
Kenmore
GE

Online Reviews and Consumer Reports research added these:
Liebherr & Sub Zero
Samsung
Kitchen Aid

DEPTH
Counter-Depth Pros:
Looks nicer since it doesn’t stick out too far from the cabinets
Gives us more of a walkway through the room
No digging around for things in the back of the fridge because there’s no back of the fridge to dig around in

Standard Size Pros:
Costs less
Has significantly more capacity
Has a ‘back of the fridge’ to store things in

FEATURES
Not sure what features we’ll get in the end, but based on comments all over the web, I know what we aren’t getting: An Ice-maker. It seems to be the main reason fridges break down.

OUR TOP TWO SO FAR ARE COUNTER-DEPTH:

Hats Off!

Prepping for the burbs in more ways than one. Gave Sig Other a choice of LL Bean hats for those cold wintery days. He opted for the first one. Can’t wait to see him in it!Screen Shot 2013-10-30 at 7.03.18 PM

Tax Annoyance and My First Purchase!

Today’s mission - Signing up for Basic Star to get a small break on taxes

Obstacles in the way of accomplishing this mission:

  • NY State Website that says it’s best to sign up online instead of calling and then after two steps of the online process, says you have to call.

  • NY State Employee who sticks to her script no matter what you say, for example, you say: “I’m calling because I don’t have a code.” And she says “Thank you for calling, may I have your code?”

  • NY State Employee then directs you back online to the wrong site for the wrong form from the wrong town and then hangs up.

A Leap Over the Obstacles - A call to the local town hall. The employee there couldn’t have been nicer.

Mission Accomplished. Or at least form filled out and waiting for Sig Other’s signature.

Also Accomplished today - Brought folding chair over to the house so there’s something for MVP Mom to sit on. My first purchase for the house - and it reclines!
